YouSustain – Youth Collaboration for Sustainable African Futures is an international initiative that brings together young people and youth-led organisations from Africa and Europe to learn, collaborate, and take action on some of the world’s most pressing challenges. These include climate justice, migration justice, social inequality, and the long-term impacts of colonial legacies.

What Is YouSustain?

YouSustain is a cross-regional youth collaboration project engaging young people aged 22–30 from Germany, Italy, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Uganda, and Zambia. The project creates meaningful opportunities for youth to exchange ideas, build leadership capacity, and co-create solutions that respond to shared global challenges from local and lived perspectives.

At its core, YouSustain believes that young people are drivers of change.

TCKZone’s Role in YouSustain

The Creative Kids Zone Initiative (TCKZone) is proud to be part of this powerful international consortium. Our participation aligns strongly with our mission to empower young people with skills, voice, and agency to influence positive change in their communities.

Through YouSustain, TCKZone contributes to advancing:

  • Youth leadership

  • Climate justice

  • Migration justice

  • Creative and decolonial approaches to advocacy

This partnership reinforces our commitment to ensuring African youth are not only included in global conversations but are actively shaping them.

“At TCKZone, we believe in empowering young people and building solutions that impact their communities.”

What YouSustain Aims to Achieve

Through youth exchanges, creative expression, and advocacy, YouSustain empowers young people to:

1. Strengthen Youth Leadership and Capacity

Participants engage in youth exchanges across Africa and Europe, building leadership skills, cross-cultural understanding, and collaborative problem-solving abilities.

2. Foster Critical Dialogue

The project creates safe and reflective spaces for honest conversations on migration, climate justice, inequality, and colonial legacies, allowing youth to challenge dominant narratives and propose alternative futures.

3. Use Creativity as Advocacy

Theatre and photography are used as powerful tools for decolonial storytelling, enabling young people to tell their own stories, amplify marginalised voices, and advocate for systemic change.

4. Build Cross-Regional Networks

YouSustain strengthens long-term networks between youth organisations, supporting inclusive governance, collaboration, and youth-led policy influence across borders.

A Participatory and Decolonial Approach

What sets YouSustain apart is its participatory and decolonial framework. Rather than imposing solutions, the project centres youth voices, lived experiences, and local realities. This approach ensures that outcomes are relevant, inclusive, and sustainable.

By supporting youth-led organisations, YouSustain helps position young people as influential actors in shaping fairer social, economic, and environmental systems across Africa and Europe.

Funding and Support

The YouSustain project is co-financed by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission, reflecting a strong commitment to international youth cooperation, learning mobility, and social inclusion.
